The bonfire was constructed in the caliche pit on Knickerbocker Road, where San Angelo Community Hospital now stands.

As you may recall, there was very little in that neck of the woods - Loop 306 was a two-lane highway with no overpasses, the city limits were somewhere near the pit, and there was nothing to speak of between the pit and Lake Nasworthy.

Yep, a lot of good parking spots are now residential!
